Torte Tiramisu
Tiramisu Torte is a variation of the classic Italian dessert Tiramisu, transformed into a cake or torte form.
I absolutely adore Tiramisú! It is traditionally a layered dessert that includes ladyfinger biscuits dipped in coffee and layered with a mascarpone cheese mixture. Often you will find it dusted with cocoa powder on top.

However, when Tiramisu is adapted into a torte, it involves creating a cake-like structure with layers that mimic the flavors of traditional Tiramisu. The layers are made with a cake that is soaked with coffee and a creamy mascarpone and chocolate Heath bar filling.
The term "torte" generally refers to a rich, multilayered cake that is often filled with creams, fruits, or other flavorful ingredients.
In the case of a Tiramisu Torte, the goal is to capture the essence of Tiramisu in a cake form, allowing for a slightly different presentation while maintaining the delicious coffee and mascarpone flavors.
Is This Tiramisu Torte an Amish Recipe?
Since I created my blog to share Amish recipes and my Amish heritage with you, I have mostly been posting traditional recipes that I grew up with.
However, once in a while, I find recipes that I love so very much that I can't help but share them with you.
I think we all know that Tiramisu Torte probably isn't an original Amish creation, although sometimes Amish cooks will find a dish and try to create a copycat version or create a slight variation to perfect a recipe.
So even though it may not seem like an Amish recipe, it could have been created or at least adapted by an Amish cook. So don't write off recipes that are not traditionally Amish and say there is no way that is an Amish recipe.
I don't know where this recipe for Tiramisu Torte originated, but I found it in one of my Amish and Mennonite cookbooks. You will find that many Amish cookbooks have evolved over the years, including a lot of recipes that are not traditionally Amish such as copycat Lindt Truffles, Parmesan Potatoes, or Mexican recipes, etc.
Torte Tiramisu is a delightful dessert, especially for coffee and chocolate lovers, so I decided to share it with my audience even though it is not a traditional Amish recipe.

Ingredients
- White Cake Mix forms the base of the torte, providing a light and fluffy texture for the cake layers.
- Strong Brewed Coffee infuses the cake layers with the classic Tiramisu flavor. The coffee also moistens the cake, adding richness and depth to the overall taste.
- Egg Whites contribute to the structure and lightness of the cake layers, creating a delicate crumb.
- Heath Candy Bar adds a toffee flavor and a crunchy texture to the cake layers. It provides a sweet contrast to the coffee-infused cake.
Frosting Ingredients:
- Mascarpone Cheese or Cream Cheese adds a creamy and tangy element to the frosting. In Tiramisu, mascarpone is a traditional ingredient that contributes to the luscious texture.
- Powdered Sugar sweetens the frosting and helps achieve the desired consistency.
- Chocolate Syrup introduces a chocolate element to the frosting, enhancing the overall flavor profile with a touch of sweetness and richness.
- Vanilla Extract enhances the flavor of the frosting, adding a subtle vanilla undertone.
- Heavy Whipping Cream is added to create a light and airy texture for the frosting. It contributes to the overall richness and decadence of the Tiramisu Torte.
How to Prepare the Tiramisu Cake
Instructions:
- Brew Strong Coffee:
- Prepare one and a half cups of strong brewed coffee and allow it to cool to room temperature.
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350℉ (175℃). Make sure the oven is fully preheated before placing the cake pans inside.
- Prepare the Cake Batter:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the white cake mix, cooled strong brewed coffee, and egg whites.
- Mix on low speed until the ingredients are moistened.
- Scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Increase the mixer speed to high and beat the mixture for 2 minutes. This helps aerate the batter and create a light texture.
- Fold in Heath Candy Bar or Baking Bits:
- Gently fold in half of the chopped Heath candy bar or Heath baking bits into the cake batter. This will distribute the toffee flavor throughout the cake.
- Prepare Cake Pans:
- Line two 8 or 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper and grease them to prevent sticking.
- Divide Batter:
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean. The exact baking time may vary, so start checking for doneness around 25 minutes.
- Cool:
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare for Assembly:
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, you can proceed with assembling the Tiramisu Torte. If necessary, level the tops of the cakes for an even surface.
Remember that the other half of the chopped Heath bar or bits will be sprinkled over the top of the assembled torte as a finishing touch.

Filling/Frosting Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients:
- Ensure that the mascarpone cheese or cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easy blending. If you didn't remove it from the fridge in time, you can always place it in a glass dish and microwave it for 10 - 20 seconds to soften it.
- Beat Mascarpone Cheese and Sugar:
- In a mixing bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese (or cream cheese). Add the powdered sugar and beat until smooth. This step creates a creamy and sweet base for the frosting.
- Add Chocolate Syrup and Vanilla:
- Mix in the chocolate syrup and vanilla extract. Continue to mix until all ingredients are well combined.
- Add Heavy Whipping Cream:
- Pour in the heavy whipping cream.
- Beat on High Speed:
- Using a mixer, beat the mixture on high speed until the heavy whipping cream is thickened and the frosting is fluffy. This may take a couple of minutes.
- Check Consistency:
- The frosting should have a thick and creamy consistency, suitable for spreading or piping onto the cake layers. Be careful not to overbeat, as it can lead to the frosting becoming too stiff.

How to Make Layered Tiramisu Cake
Assembly Instructions:
- Slice Cakes:
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, use a long, sharp knife to slice each one horizontally and create four thin layers in total.
- Drizzle with Coffee:
- Using the remaining strongly brewed coffee, drizzle 2 - 3 tablespoons of cooled coffee over the first cake layer. This step adds moisture and enhances the coffee flavor in the cake.
- Spread Thin Layer of Frosting:
- Spread a thin layer of frosting (approximately ¾ cup) over the moistened cake layer.
- Repeat for the Next Two Layers:
- Repeat the process with the next two cake layers. Place a layer, drizzle with coffee, and spread a thin layer of frosting.
- Add Final Cake Layer:
- Place the fourth cake layer on top.
- Frost Top and Sides:
- Frost the top and sides of the assembled torte with the remaining frosting. Ensure an even and smooth coating.
- Sprinkle the remaining Heath Candy:
- Sprinkle the remaining chopped Heath candy over the top of the frosted torte. This adds a delightful crunch and sweetness to the presentation.
- Refrigerate:
- Refrigerate the assembled Tiramisu Torte for several hours or, ideally, overnight. Chilling allows the flavors to blend and the frosting to set.
- Serve:
- Before serving, you can optionally dust the top of the torte with cocoa powder for a finishing touch.
- Storage:
- Cover the Tiramisu Torte and store it in the refrigerator for up to five days.
By following these assembly instructions, you'll create a beautifully layered and flavorful Tiramisu Torte.

What is the Difference Between Mascarpone Cheese and Cream Cheese?
Cream cheese is an American creation, made from cream, milk, and stabilizers, offering a dense and smooth texture with a mildly tangy flavor. It's versatile, and commonly used in both sweet and savory dishes.
On the other hand, mascarpone originated from Italy and is crafted from cream coagulated with acid. Mascarpone has a higher fat content. It has a rich, creamy, and velvety texture with a mild and sweet flavor, lacking the tanginess found in cream cheese.
Mascarpone is often favored in Italian desserts like Tiramisu dessert and for creating creamy sauces. In summary, cream cheese is tangy and adaptable, while mascarpone is sweet, velvety, and a go-to for Italian-inspired treats and sauces.
Mascarpone can often be found at Walmart with the special cheeses. It is more expensive than cream cheese, but it makes the best Tiramisu Torte. However, this easy Tiramisu cake is also delightful when made with cream cheese. So feel free to use either one.
