About Me - My Amish Story

    Growing Up Amish

Hello, I'm Anna, and I am thrilled to have you join me on my journey of blogging. Allow me to introduce myself as someone who has a deep connection to the Amish community, having grown up in a New Order Amish home and being part of that community for the first 22 years of my life.

I was raised in the picturesque heart of Lancaster County Amish country, in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, and have an appreciation for the rich customs and traditions that have shaped my upbringing.

Currently, I reside in a small rural town in Missouri, where I am blessed to share my life with my loving husband and four incredible children. I am a homeschool mom, and family is truly the cornerstone of my existence.

    My Culinary Background

Ever since my early years, I have found immense joy in the culinary arts. My Amish mom taught me how to cook and bake at an early age, and I worked alongside her in the kitchen every single day. She taught me all the basics of cooking, baking, canning, etc., and creating home-cooked meals every day of my life for about 40 years now has given me quite a bit of experience.

For several years, I worked in the deli kitchen at a local supermarket. A group of Amish and Mennonite girls ran that place, and we made all kinds of soups, salads, and homemade PA Dutch foods for the deli.

Cooking and baking have been an integral part of my life, and I take great pleasure in creating delicious meals and treats from scratch. Baking, in particular, holds a special place in my heart, and I must confess that I have a weakness for sweets.

    Continuing to Honor Amish Traditions

Beyond the kitchen, I also enjoy the art of gardening. It provides me with a therapeutic connection to nature and the opportunity to nurture the bountiful gifts it offers.

Whenever I am not here on my blog sharing recipes and traditions, you can find me in the kitchen baking tasty treats, cooking for my family, or canning and preserving my fresh garden veggies. If I'm not in the kitchen, you'll probably find me outside trying to keep my garden looking like my mom's - free from weeds and pests. 🙂 I was taught to be responsible and work hard, and working is what I do best. lol

However, even though I enjoy gardening and spending time in my kitchen, my ultimate source of happiness stems from serving my Lord Jesus and from the invaluable moments I share with my cherished family.

    Why I Became A Blogger

While the path of becoming a blogger was not something I initially envisioned for myself, it was the encouragement and inspiration of my sister-in-law, @aranchmom.com, that led me to share my unique experiences and insights into the Amish way of life that I was raised in.

She motivated me to venture into a world I was not very familiar with, and I found that I really enjoy sharing recipes, stories, and traditions from my Amish Heritage.

    Sharing About the Amish

If you find yourself curious about the Amish community, their simple and traditional lifestyle, and the intriguing sight of them traveling in their buggies, you have come to the right place.

Through my blog, I intend to provide you with a window into the Amish world. I share firsthand accounts of my Amish upbringing, shedding light on their customs and offering a glimpse into why I made the decision to forge a different path for myself.

    Sharing Amish Recipes

Furthermore, I am thrilled to present to you a delightful array of Amish recipes, each possessing a unique and enticing quality that is sure to capture your taste buds.

Most of the recipes that I share are dishes that I grew up with. They are tried and true recipes, some of which have been passed down through generations. Amish food is comforting, hearty, and filling, and (I won't lie) a lot of their meals are loaded with carbs. 🙂

And, although I try to stay true to the authenticity of Amish recipes, sometimes I add my own twist with more spices and seasonings than the original recipes included. I hope you enjoy my recipes, and if you prefer traditional recipes without added spices, feel free to omit them and stick with the basics.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you for joining me on this adventure, and I genuinely hope that you will find not only enjoyment but also enlightenment as I share My Amish Heritage with you.

    Amish Heritage Cookbook

If you love the recipes you find here on my blog, my Amish Heritage Cookbook is the perfect way to enjoy them in a convenient, hard-copy format. It features a collection of my favorite tried-and-true Amish recipes, from comforting main dishes and hearty sides to sweet desserts and classic baked goods. While all of the recipes are also available for free here on my website, having them in one beautiful, easy-to-use cookbook makes cooking from scratch even simpler. It's a wonderful keepsake for anyone who loves homemade meals and wants to experience the rich flavors of Amish heritage.

My kids are getting all grown up (too fast). They are my favorite people in the world, and I love to hang out with these guys.

Since my kids are all grown up, I have more time to spend on my blog and testing recipes. Of course, they are always happy to help me get rid of all the goodies I create.

Once again, thank you for being here. I appreciate your support on this journey more than you'll ever know.
