Recipe for Amish Chicken
This recipe for Amish Rice Krispie Chicken is made with thin-sliced chicken breast (chicken cutlets or tenderloins) dipped in an egg and milk slurry and crushed Rice Krispies. The Rice Krispies create a crunchy texture on the outside, while the chicken is beautifully moist on the inside.
It's a fantastic oven-baked chicken cutlets recipe that your kids will love, and it's perfect for Sunday dinner or anytime!
Ingredients
- Boneless, skinless chicken breast or tenderloins are the protein base of the dish.
- Egg helps to bind the flour mixture to the chicken.
- Milk adds moisture and contributes to a tender texture.
- All-purpose flour along with the egg and milk, forms the batter that adheres to the chicken and provides a base for the Rice Krispies coating.
- Salt enhances the flavors.
- Garlic powder adds a savory, garlicky flavor.
- Black pepper provides a hint of heat and depth of flavor.
- Poultry seasoning (optional) adds additional savory flavor from the blend of herbs and spices.
- Crushed Rice Krispies form the crispy, crunchy coating for the chicken, adding texture and a unique flavor.
- Paprika adds color and a subtle smoky flavor.
- Melted butter adds richness and flavor to the coating, and helps to brown and crisp up the Rice Krispies during baking.
Chicken
Growing up, we always butchered our own chickens, as do a lot of the Amish. Even if they don't live on a farm, most of them still have a little farmette with a few animals. So home-grown free-range chicken is a staple in many Amish homes.
For this baked chicken breast recipe, you don't want huge pieces of chicken.
Store-bought chicken breasts often come in huge pieces. But it's easy to slice them in half and cut them into smaller pieces to make cutlets. Tenderloins are also great to use for this baked chicken recipe.
How to Make Rice Krispie Chicken
Mix the egg, milk, flour, and seasonings to create a slurry. Place the crushed Rice Krispies and paprika into a separate bowl.
Dip the cutlets or tenderloins into the slurry, then dredge them in the Rice Krispies. (This process is a bit messy, but it's totally worth it!)
Place the coated chicken onto a foil-lined and greased baking tray, leaving a bit of space between each piece. Drizzle the melted butter over the top. Bake until the outside is nice and crispy and the internal temperature has reached at least 160 degrees F.
It's risky to eat undercooked chicken, and I hate the texture of chicken that wasn't cooked long enough as well. But I also despise dry meat. I like to cut into a perfectly cooked, moist piece of chicken. Use a kitchen thermometer (affiliate link) to test for doneness.
Thankfully, it's not hard to achieve perfection with this Amish baked chicken breast since the outside is coated. The coating helps to trap the moisture, keeping it moist and tender.
What Can I Serve with Crispy Baked Rice Krispie Chicken?
First, let me say that this chicken is great to eat on its own. You don't need any dipping sauce, etc.
But if you've never tried the Chick-fil-A dipping sauce (affiliate link), you should get some and try it with this crispy chicken. It pairs perfectly as a dipping sauce.
Parmesan potatoes, fries, and lettuce salad are great sides to serve with these moist and delicious homemade chicken tenders.
Buttered Noodles, Amish Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad, Pennsylvania Dutch Potato Filling, and Homemade Amish Potato Salad would be great sides as well.
Chicken breast is one of my favorite meats. There are so many good dishes to make with it, such as Parmesan Chicken, Baked Chicken Breast in Creamy Sauce, etc.
I hope you enjoy this Amish recipe for Rice Krispy Chicken as much as we do. If you try it, I'd love it if you left a comment and star rating below. Thank you!

I made this tonight and it was really good. I was looking for a recipe that kept the rice krispies on the chicken. Your slurry did the trick! Thank you!

My family loved it!! I really appreciated that during the steps, you listed the ingredients, so I didn’t have to scroll back and forth. My only error was I missed the salt because it’s listed next to the garlic powder, but that was my error. I will definitely be making this again!!

I was also excited to see the measurements listed with the steps. I’m cooking my first round of tenderloins right now and they smell delicious - I can’t wait to try them - but really the most exciting part of this for me so far is that the measurements were included in the instructions. Hahaha! Such a small but impactful courtesy! 🤣

I hope you enjoyed your chicken! And yes, I list the measurements with instructions because I appreciate it myself. Not sure why not more people do it?
