Easy Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge with Cocoa Powder

Dive into the world of homemade goodness with this simple and delicious treat! Using cocoa powder, this Amish chocolate peanut butter fudge recipe is super easy to make. Mix a few basic ingredients, and you'll have a sweet chocolate treat to satisfy your sweet tooth in no time.

This is truly a no-fuss fudge recipe, with no cooking involved, and no candy thermometer required. It's quick and easy to make, with common pantry ingredients. So get ready to enjoy a delicious, fuss-free chocolate peanut butter fudge that's sure to become a new favorite!

Ingredients: powdered sugar, peanut butter, cocoa powder, butter, and vanilla.

    Ingredients

Let's break down the ingredients for chocolate peanut butter fudge and highlight their contributions:

    1. Butter provides a rich and creamy texture to the fudge. It adds indulgent flavor and contributes to the smoothness that makes each bite heavenly. In this easy recipe, the butter acts as the base for your fudge, ensuring a delightful mouthfeel.
    2. Peanut Butter not only introduces a nutty and savory element but also complements the chocolate flavor. Its creamy consistency enhances the texture, creating a perfect balance between sweet and nutty notes. The combination of chocolate and peanut butter is a classic, satisfying the cravings of any peanut butter lover.
    3. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder is the essence of chocolate in the recipe. It contributes a deep, rich chocolate flavor to the fudge, making it intensely satisfying for chocolate lovers. Unsweetened cocoa allows you to control the sweetness level, ensuring a perfect balance with the powdered sugar. (I like to use dark chocolate cocoa powder.)
    4. Vanilla extract enhances the overall flavor profile. It adds a subtle sweetness and a warm undertone that complements both the chocolate and peanut butter.
    5. Salt - adding a bit of salt may seem subtle but is crucial for balancing the sweetness. It also acts as a flavor enhancer, intensifying the chocolate and peanut butter notes while preventing the fudge from becoming overly sweet.
    6. Powdered Sugar is the sweet component that binds the fudge together. It provides the necessary sweetness to counterbalance the cocoa's bitterness and complements the nutty notes of peanut butter. Powdered sugar also contributes to the fudge's smooth and melt-in-your-mouth texture.

These simple ingredients work together to create a harmonious blend of rich chocolate and creamy peanut butter, offering a delightful and easy-to-make Amish-inspired chocolate peanut butter fudge.

What Kind of Peanut Butter Should I Use?

The "best" brand of peanut butter for fudge is subjective and can depend on personal taste preferences. However, some popular and widely used brands for making fudge include:

    1. Jif is known for its smooth and creamy texture, which can contribute to a silky consistency in fudge.
    2. Skippy is another well-known brand that offers smooth and creamy peanut butter, making it a reliable choice for fudge recipes.
    3. Peter Pan peanut butter is often chosen for its rich and peanutty flavor, contributing depth to the fudge.
    4. Trader Joe's carries different types of peanut butter, including creamy, crunchy, and natural options. Their products are generally well-regarded.
    5. If you prefer organic peanut butter, Maranatha is a brand that offers high-quality peanut butter.

When selecting peanut butter for Amish fudge, consider whether you want a smooth or crunchy texture and whether you prefer a sweeter or more natural peanut flavor. Choose a peanut butter that you enjoy eating on its own, as its flavor will play a significant role in the overall taste of the fudge.

If you enjoy added texture and crunch in your fudge, use chunky peanut butter. It will provide small peanut pieces throughout the fudge.

And, one more thing, if the budget is tight and all you can afford to buy is store-brand peanut butter, it works as well. I've made this fudge using Walmart's Great Value peanut butter, and it turned out fine.

How to Make Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge

There are only a few steps involved in making this peanut butter chocolate fudge recipe, and it's easy enough for a kid to accomplish.

    • Melt the butter in a large microwave-safe bowl, or melt it in a small saucepan on the stovetop.
    • Add the peanut butter, then whisk or stir until smooth.
    • Add the cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt. Mix to combine.
    • Finally, stir in the powdered sugar until well-mixed and creamy.
    • Spread the creamy chocolate mixture into an 8 or 9" square greased or parchment paper-lined pan. (Leave the parchment paper hanging over the edge of the pan for easy removal.)
    • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm.
    • Cut into small pieces with a sharp knife and store in an airtight container.

    How to Store Homemade Fudge

Refrigerate the fudge until firm before cutting it into large bite-sized pieces. If desired, you can wrap each individual piece of fudge, or just store it in an airtight container with sheets of wax paper between the layers to prevent sticking.

Amish peanut butter fudge can be stored at room temperature in a cool, dry place for about 1 to 2 weeks.

For longer storage, or if your kitchen is warm, consider refrigerating the fudge. Refrigeration helps extend its shelf life and prevents it from becoming too soft or losing its shape. (I prefer cold fudge, so I keep mine refrigerated.)

When refrigerating, make sure the container is sealed tightly to prevent the fudge from absorbing odors from the fridge.

Fudge can also be frozen for longer-term storage. Wrap each piece individually in plastic wrap or wax paper and place them in an airtight container or a zip-top freezer bag. When ready to enjoy, thaw it in the refrigerator.

    Homemade Candy

I grew up Amish, and every year at Christmas time, we made lots of homemade candies and cookies. My mom, sisters, and I spent a couple of days making all kinds of Christmas holiday treats. Then we filled plates with goodies and shared one with all of our neighbors.

My mom took several of us kids with her when she went to pass out the plates. We had several elderly neighbors around us, and we always stayed to visit with them and sang a carol or two.

They seemed to love it when we came, and we enjoyed spreading Christmas cheer and goodies.

Cashew crunch, and chocolate-covered pretzels are well-loved homemade Christmas treats.

I can't wait to try this recipe along with others. I love baking even though I have to send a lot of it home with my boys as all my children have left the nest so to speak. And it is just me.
Thank you for your wonderful recipes

Had a little trouble with this one! I forgot Amish people measure butter in pounds, so I put in half a cup instead of half a pound. Oops. Ended up with something that would have made wonderful prop gravel in a home movie. After a great deal of frustration and adjustments for high altitude I've got it cooling. The bit I sneakily licked off the spoon tastes great!

I'm sorry about your trouble, but I also added the (2 sticks) detail.

I saw that, yeah. My mistake was twofold: I read it as cups, and I read two sticks. Forgot I keep half sticks in the fridge to save space 🤦‍♂️totally my bad. The fudge turned out delicious after I got it sorted out, though! My family loved it, especially the youngins.

Hi, I’m Anna. I grew up Amish in the Lancaster County, Pa. area (the heart of Amish country). I currently live in a small rural town in Missouri and am a homeschool mom to 4 great kids. Some of my favorite things to do are spending time in the kitchen, (baking and preparing meals from scratch), gardening, and spending time with my lovely family.
